The Nancy and Frederick De Matteis Arts Education Program for ChildrenIn celebration of the WHBPAC’s 10th Anniversary Season, we present you with an amazing array of enriching arts experiences for young people and their families. Each year we continue to expand our offerings to make the arts come alive for a wide spectrum of the community, including those who would not otherwise have the opportunity. Whether the experience involves seeing a live performance, attending a performing arts workshop or camp, or performing on stage in our beautiful state-of-the-art venue, we work to bring our community together through the common language of the arts. From fun-filled and enlightening entertainment for the entire family, to nurturing, skill-based performing arts camps, to curriculum enhancing School Day Performances, the WHBPAC remains committed to providing exposure to programs and performers of cultural diversity and to providing young people with opportunities to experience the magic and transformative powers of the arts! We are so pleased that during this very special anniversary year we will move into the next phase of growth of our Children’s Arts Education Program, as we begin to offer classes and workshops after-school and on weekends! Now we invite you to give your children the opportunity to develop new skills, create, perform and have fun with peers as they immerse themselves in various disciplines of the performing arts. We promise to provide the world of the imagination as their playground! MCT's mission is to develop life skills - creativity, social skills, goal achievement and self-esteem - through participation in the performing arts. A team of actors/directors arrives with sets, lights, costumes, props and make up...auditions are on Monday....by Friday, the cast is performance read y. The rest is magic!
With a wealth of professional expertise in Shakespeare, theatre and
education, teaching artists Rosalie Luber and Lynne Foster bring the
comical and fantastical world of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's
Dream to life. This rehearsal-based camp uses theatre games, improvisations,
stage combat, and movement to bring the three worlds of Shakespeare's
funniest play to performance. Young thespians will delight as they
transform into fairies, kings, queens and sprites.
For the Company's 6th summer at the WHBPAC, Artistic Director Sondra Forsyth has created another glorious week of dance for tots to teens, along with an original ballet specifically designed to spotlight our student dancers. The residency culminates in a costumed performance when the young dancers share the stage with the professional artists of Ballet Ambassadors.
The Hudson Vagabond Puppets Teaching Artists will bring creative dance, drama, and mask-making to a new level in this summer's camp program. Each participant will be uniquely involved in building masks, writing the story and creating dances for a performance loosely based on Native American storytelling.
During this intensive daylong workshop on auditioning for the musical
theatre, students will have the opportunity to work with a professional
team, including: a musical director, a choreographer and a stage director,
who will provide individualized coaching for each participant in vocal
production and style, dramatic interpretation, and presentation. Students
will come prepared with one up tempo song and one ballad. In addition,
participants will be challenged to tackle new, unrehearsed material
just as they might in a professional audition or callback.
